Portrait of Sandrine Chetrit in her studio

Originally from the south of France, where she spent much of her life, Sandrine Chetrit studied fine arts before being drawn naturally toward fashion and luxury.

A lover of fine materials and bold pairings, she curated, advised, and built a world of her own in her own boutiques. A globe-trotter, she travels the world for her art and her pleasure, spends her time among artists, meets designers, and visits the world's finest museums.

In 2015, after years of passion in the world of fashion, she settled in Tel Aviv and reconnected naturally with painting.

Colour, central to her work, is laid down in flats — vast and many. Her palette of vivid or pastel tones is arranged by intuition, while form, precise and considered, uses line as structure, in the service of an aesthetic balance in which abstraction reigns.

Though her search is above all a visual one, her work asks questions: what is our place among those we love? In the universe? What is the meaning of life? With simplicity and humility, Sandrine seeks to translate onto the canvas a reflection on our humanity, our spiritual ties, and our infinite connection with the space around us.

Artistic approach

I have always loved to travel. For me, to paint is to set off on an adventure in search of a new route.

Line and my pencil are at the root of my creative process. All my works are born in black and white before they are given colour. I may make twenty or thirty drawings and keep only one. Colour comes next, through successive attempts, guided by intuition and the need for balance. Each of these stages is a necessary exploration that transforms and redefines the space. I am satisfied when the work, through trial and error, transcends and surpasses the first drawing.

Colour, ever-present, unfolds in vibrant flats or subtle harmonies, while line gives the whole its structure, offering a frame for emotion and spontaneity.

Though my search is above all a visual one, it also carries a spiritual dimension. I question our bond with God and with one another, our quest for meaning and connection with the infinite. Each canvas becomes a space for reflection, an invitation to feel rather than to understand.
